As near as I could pin the lady I spoke to at Mossberg(I think her name was Lucy) is that it is no longer being produced but it has not been dropped as they said it will return when they catch up with other items. They would no elaborate on that but I would assume it might be the new bolt rifle they are putting out.
I like the SSI, after a trigger job and I recrowned the muzzle it shots great groups 1.5 inches or less. I swear I think it had a 42 lb. trigger pull with at least a half pound of sand thrown in for good measure. The rifle is a little on the heavy side also. I have a couple of barrels for mine but am looking for a 308 Win barrel, let me know if you see an accessory barrel in 308.

Gander Mountain SSi Update

Had to go past Gander Mtn Houston store on way to play in Charity golf event.  Could not resist stopping at store and looking at SSi's again.  Ended up buying both a SSi and a Ruger Mk4 .22 LR pistol for about $420.  Paid about $237 + tax for .308 cal SSi.  Received extra discounts off SSi $300 price tag and Ruger $220 price tag.

Did you happen to notice if they had of the barrel assemblies for the SSI in 308? Would you like to trade for a 30-06 barrel? I am looking for a 308 barrel but can't seem to find one, found one last year at Sir Mail Order in Canada but they wouldn't mail guns or gun parts to the US or so they told me.

Steve E,  Saw no SSi barrels and clerk handling my purchase made no mention of having any.  Sorry, but do not want to trade.  I have a good 30-06 rifle already.

Phone number for Gander Mountain store in Houston, Tx is 832-237-7900.  If you call, ask for Ted in gun dept.  Nice guy.  Explain your problem, maybe he can help.  Tell him Mr. Wilson told you to call.  He will probably remember me due to minor problem I had with Ruger pistol I bought.

Was going to suggest you order the rifle from them, price would be about $237 plus shipping and no tax because you are out of state, but Duh, remembered FFL license problem.  Thinking price of barrel supposed to be about what I paid for rifle.

Went into another Gander Mtn store yesterday and had a chat with long time employee in Gun dept.  He could remember when Mossberg introduced the SSi line of rifles.  Said sales in his store were good and then had a problem getting them from Mossberg, so he called Mossberg to find out why.  According to him, he was told that Mossberg had sold all SSi manufacturing equipment, remaining inventory and parts to another company.  When he asked what company, he was told it was a secret and who ended up with SSi's could not be revealed.  Gander employee also said this occurred same year Mossberg introduced the SSi.
