« on: April 18, 2006, 12:48:23 PM »
Would like recommendations regarding bullet weights, loading, etc. for shooting the subject Springfield Trapdoor, .45-70.  Will be using it to target shoot (50 to 300 yards or so)...
Also, what's your experience with this gun?

Thanks.

Okie,
Go to trapdoorcollector.com
There, find the page for loading and shooting, and everything else related to these rifles.

oaki what modle do you have if it is the carbine or the std 32 barrel modle they have a twist of 1 in 22 if it is the long range or the officers modle they have a twist of 1 in 18.the 1in 22 will be beter with 300to 405 grn bullets ,the 1in 18 twist will do well with the 500pluss bullets . a friend has the officer modle and it shoots the lyman potshell and the 457-125 bullet 's and the lee500rbullet very accuratley . http://www.davide-pedersoli.com/

Mine is a Trapdoor Carbine Standard.  It has the 1:22 twist...  I'll stick with the 300 to 405 grain bullets.
Thanks for your info.....
