8 X 56 Mannlicher Schoenauer to 8 X 57 Maus
« on: April 24, 2006, 09:12:56 AM »
Can anyone give me any help here?  I have the opportunity to purchase a Mannlicher Schoenauer 1909 carbine in awesome condition for its age.  It was 8 X 56 MS and someone rechambered to 8 X 57 Mauser do you think this is a problem.  We did take the rifle and the owner ran 5 round through it, no problems.  Brass no lumps bumps or shiny spots.  Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Sounds fine to me but you may want to measure the chamber dimensions once you get it home. You might also inquire in the gunsmithing forum. Gunnut69 is a smith.

The 8x57 is notoriously underloaded in this country. As long as you stick to domestic loads you ought to be fine. I wouldn't try to match the German Military ballistics though.
