I shot up the last of my 195 grain powerbelts for my .45. Went and bought 3 more packages. When I got home I found I got the wrong bullet. I had been using the hollowpoint but I took home 3 packages of 195 grain aerotips. And they're nonreturnable

Is one better than the other? What would be the differences performance wise. I'll find out soon enough if they group differently than the hollowpoints

If anything the aerotips are probably going to group even better than the hollowpoints because they are more aerodynamic. The aerotips are supposed to punch through a deer better also. :wink:

I used 225 powerbelt hollowpoints in my Encore .45 barrel (now sold) and killed four deer with them, but didn't like the no-pass through performance. The deer were dead, but I like a good blood trail and only one deer out of four had a hole on both sides.

Just my opinion, but I wouldn't go less than 225 grain bullets on a deer unless you are a good tracker or hunt in a open area where you can watch them fall.....

doegirl, I could not get my 45 Cal Encore to shoot the 195 gr. powerbelts well. But the difference between the hollowpoint and aerotips is, the aerotips give better penetration because it controls the expansion of the bullet with the tip. I use to shoot the 295 gr. powerbelts in my 50 Cal Encore and both the hollowpoint and aerotips hit the same point of aim.

toytruck, my son and I have used 195 gr. Barnes Expanders in the 45 Cal Encore and have dropped deer right in there tracks as well as within 25 yards of shot. Shot placement is what counts.

I agree of course, shot placement is the key. Personally, I am going for a bigger bullet and hole to match. :wink:

doegirl the plastic tips in the aeros are removable, just take em out and shoot them as hollowpoints, no problems, good hunting!

The other thing is there are more hollow points in the packages at the same price. But I would rather shoot with the tip in place. Better penetration is what you will get.
