357 Max Range Report
« on: April 22, 2006, 06:31:40 AM »
I took my 357 Max. Contender barrel today for the first time scoped with a Leupold M8, 4X  power scope.  Had two loads H-110 and R-7.  The R-7 published MV was higher than the H-110 but had less felt recoil.  I was shooting the Hornady 180 gr. SP single shot pistol bullet.  I zeroed at 50 yards with the H-110 and got  1.25 inch groups then switched to 100 yards with the R-7.  If I did my part I was getting .75 inch grouping.  It was pleasant shooting something with a little less recoil than my big boys.  I plan to hunt whitetail with the 357 Max this year topped with a red dot.

edk,

It was Alliant Reloader 7.  This was the first time I've used this power and it was very satifactory.

Thanks,

kidolds,

Have you recovered any of the bullets from the whitetails?  I was wondering what kind of expansion you were getting?

Thanks,

Turk

I showed some photos of a 357Max bullet after shooting a deer in a previous post.  I think you can get to it from this link.

Billyjoe,

Quite impressive.  The accuracy really surprised me when I first tried out my barrel.

Thanks,

Turk
