Where can I find the 44 mag?
« on: April 24, 2006, 03:51:36 PM »
Hey all,

I decided to go with the 44 mag for my "canoe" gun, however, after my decision was made, I can't find one! My local Gander Mountain says they can't even order one because their suppliers have none available. Anyone seen an online dealer with the 44 in stock that will do transfers? The gun source shows it as limited availability, get on the list, and Walmart won't order it either because they say it doesn't show on their available list.

Thanks.

Another option is to buy a Handi in a caliber of choice that is readily available, perhaps from Walmart, and send the frame in for a 44mag barrel, this would be a true Handiholic's means to an end........or beginning!!!! :-D  :-D  :-D

Yep, that's what I did.
Wanted the .308 survivor because of the bull barrel but wanted a wood stock, I looked everywhere but nobody had a survivor. So i bought the Ultra varmint .223 and then sent it off to have the .308 Bull barrel put on it.
Just got it back today, only took 30 days, can hardly wait to get to the range.

As Tim said you could go pick up a Handi at Walmart in a different caliber, then send it off to get fitted.
Or, you could keep an eye out at Pawn Shops, and Used Gun racks for a good deal. Just make sure about the serial numbers, so it's eligable to get fitted.
If you get another caliber you didn't really want, it's not hard getting rid of a barrel around these parts   :)

Yeah,
I looked at going that route. However, my intent was to do some stock, barrel, finish mods to this gun, and keep the barrel, receiver together exclusively. THEN, I could justify (In my mind) another handi to add barrels to!! I was looking at taking the cheap wood stock or buying a plastic one from H&R and modifying it to house a bilt-in shell carrier with cover. I just don't care for the survivir stock. I figure the reasonable cost of a plain wood or plastic stock is worth a little experimentation. If I hose it up, I'm not out a lot of cash.

There's always the Tamer stock if you want to carry shells in it..
