Does 05 Suburban have a governor?
« on: May 02, 2006, 08:59:47 AM »
Okay, so maybe you don't have my problem... my truck (05 Suburban 5.3 liter 4x4) starts cutting out at about 100 mph.  Don't laugh this off, I'm really tired of getting run over by 10 year old 1.2 liter beaters... I really needed to get from Frankfurt to Stuttgart in a hurry the other day, it was a German holiday (NO TRAFFIC!!! ) and couldn't break 160 km/h!  Not sure if it has always been like this or not.  Normally only run about 85-90 mph on the autobahn due to traffic.  Was REALLY dissappointed that I couldn't hit about 110-115 (speedo says 120)...

Thanks,

ps - you oughta see the heads turn when I light off the flowmasters in some areas!!!  My neighbor says WUNDERBAR!  Der grosse Auto SINGS!

Yes your surburban has a governor 98 MPH I believe. I may be wrong But I think you can have the computer programmed to remove it.

so since I am over here... it looks like I will have to find a way to reprogram it myself.  Hmmm... more research...  98 was just about where is starting dialing back the power and cutting out.

There are a bunch of aftermarket "chips" that you can get the retune your truck.  They not only take out the governer but also allow you to set your shift points to free up some of that lost horsepower.
