Author Topic: Taurus rimfire revolvers (Read 2170 times)

I've been looking at buying a 22LR revolver. There are two Taurus revolvers which seem quite reasonably priced. They are the the M970 Tracker with a 6.5inch barrel and the M94 with a 5inch barrel. I like the idea of the M94 - 9 shots, good barrel length and slightly cheaper than the Tracker.

So, anybody have any experiences with one or the other? Or any other Taurus 22LR revolvers?

BTW, a S&W 22LR revolver is out of my price range.

I had the stainless 5" and my 2 problems were I wasn't shooting the light weight well (same ballpark as a S&W 63) and the action was not "sweet". The gun itself worked fine and I think with the now available spring kits, and the knowledge of how the 63 shot, I'ld be satisfied. Good gun, good price, available. It was plenty accurate but I wasn't consistent with it.

P.S. My tracker was not a 22 but it was a no-complaints gun.

JUST BOUGHT THE 9 SHOT TAURUS ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO. IT IS A LITTLE SMALL FOR MY LARGE HANDS, BUT I'VE GOTTEN PRETTY GOOD WITH IT. JUST TAKES TIME BEHIND THE TRIGGER. WHEN I GET TIRED OF SHOOTING THE 454 I CAN STILL BANG AWAY AT THE RANGE FOR A LONG TIME WITH THE 22.

I've got a Tarus 4" J frame size that's a nine shot. I don't know the model number but it is accurate. I've had it around five years or so.

just bought the 5 inch blued 9-shot Taurus 94 for $289 NIB. The S and W 617, with a frame too large for my wife's hand and a bit too big for mine too, was $589 NIB. Even if the Taurus has to go for a trigger job, despite my penchant for shooting the bad guys with snap caps on every cop and spy TV show imaginable, I still saved quite a bit of dough for ammo and have a gun that fits our hands better. Win- win.

To own and shoot a S&W 617 is worth the price. In quality shooting a DA 22 lr this is the only game in town. You can get them cheaper, but never better, IMHO. I respect your thoughts but I bought the 617 to hand down to my grandson, it has that quality. I enjoy shooting the DA, gets you back to the basics.

Can not disagree with you, Jim N Iowa. I don't buy guns to collect or consider handing them down, even though I have two grown sons, I just buy them to shoot with my better half. The S and W was simply too large to hold properly. (Combined weight, my wife and I go around 250.) The 617 we handled was a beautiful piece with an even sweeter trigger. However just like my GP100 is too large for my wife, so is the 617, and she liked the lesser weight of the Taurus as well. As I said, for fifty bucks I can have the trigger worked if snap-capping away during cop and spy shows doesn't reduce the DA pull enough. I feel as you do about DA, although more than half of my shooting my Ruger is at SA. And I reduced the trigger pull of the Ruger's DA from over 15 to around 8 by just snap-capping away a thousand times or so.

Hello everyone- I bought a Taurus Model 96 Target about 7 years ago. Shoots great with the right ammo. NEVER use thunderbolts. Very dirty powder and jams the cylinder turning. Anyway, two years ago I decided to remove the cylinder to make sure things were really cleaned and lubed inside on the shaft. I broke the stem inside the cylinder by turning it the wrong way.They have left had threads and I thought was right hand. I took it to the local gun shop and told him what I did. He looked at the gun and said as long as it says 'Taurus International' on it they will fix it for free. A problem that I myself caused. Nothing to do with the quality of the gun. It cost me $13 for shipping and insurance. Got a new stem and new extractor wheel timed for the gun and I was back in business. These guns are quaranteed forever!!!! Really! Made on old Smith and Wesson machines when Bangor Punta owned them both. That's why the Taurus autos look like Beretta-- Bangor Punta owned them too. But not anymore.

Not to argue, but I don't think anybody has owned Beretta. It's the oldest privately owned manufacturing company in the world. From the 1400's I think.
I think Taurus did buy the factory & tooling in Brazil from Beretta. I don't know the particulars.
