Marlin MR-7 Question
« on: October 08, 2005, 10:12:22 PM »
I know this is a Marlin Lever Action forum but I have a question concerning a Marlin Bolt Action that I think is more suited for Marlin people than it is for Bolt Action people.

About 10 yrs ago Marlin went into the Bolt Action High Powered business again, the first time since the 1950's.  What they produced was named the MR-7.  Marlin only made them for a few years and stopped because of sagging sales and a whispered copyright/patent infringement problem.

I have never been able to find out how many MR-7's Marlin made and how many in each caliber.  Does anyone have access to that info?  Marlin is usually secretive about it's sales numbers, although the numbers are available for the Bolt Actions from the 50's.

Any help would be appreciated.

JVS, in what I believe is this rifles final production year, my 1999 Marlin brochure shows two centerfire MR-7 models, The walnut stocked MR-7 with the Browning A-Bolt style detachable magazine & hinged floorplate and the birch stocked MR-7B with blind magazine & no sights available. Both had non Micro-Groove 6 groove barrels. The Mr-7 is offered in .25-06 Rem., .270 Win., .280 Rem. & .30-06 Sprg.  The MR-7B is offered in .270 Win. & .30-06 Sprg. only.  I'm not sure, but this may have been the only production year for the .25-06 & .280 so the potential is there that not many of them were made .  I'm interested in buying one in either of those two calibers & have  been looking on the gun auction sites; very hard to find. So, like you, I would like to know production run numbers also.  If you find that info, please let me know.
