My first ever Taurus!
« on: May 30, 2009, 07:01:42 AM »
I was kind of leery as I have always been a Smith/Ruger revolver shooter but at $239 I decided to take the chance on this Taurus 96:

It is a 22lr and almost looks like a vintage Smith 17. I hope it is a shooter. Might get to try it out today!

Good looking revolver. If I could get one at that sort of price , I would. I have had three Taurus revolvers and they have all been good. Some people are not so lucky, and would never have another. Keep us posted on how it shoots. - Pete

Looks good, good price.  Should serve you well.

I have the 4" version (the older model, not the new one with the full underlug) and it's been a good gun.
In fact it was so good that I bought a newer model 66 Taurus - big mistake!

I would buy one of the older models if I found one at a good price, but no new models.

I really hope it works out for you.  Let us know after a couple hundred rounds.

Thanks for the replies. The revolver was fairly accurate for me considering I do not see open sights too well these days and the SA trigger is somewhat heavier than I am used. Tried some DA for the first itme in a long time and was pretty happy with the results.

Unfortunately the one black eye was the misfires. :( Had quite a few with a variety of ammo.

I found some info on adjusting the hammer tension on Taurus , the site states: "Taurus Silhouette Target revolvers are equipped with adjustable hammer" but the pic of the hammer strut they show looks just like my Taurus as well as the adjutable trigger stop. If I can get this misfire issue resolved by adjusting the hammer spring tension I'll be pleased with the Taurus.

I'll update once I try out the adjustment and hit the range again.

I inherited a Taurus Model 80 .38 Special 4" years ago. It was made in '76-77. I have hammered this thing silly. Standard pressure, +P, and then some and the thing keeps trucking. It has killed everything from a whitetail deer to a possum to a skunk and it is still on guard duty. You have a good find.
