bought one for my new silverado. What the hell is chev thinking. they sell a truck and adevertise that its 310hp and then put torque management settings so drastic in it that it feels like a 6 cyl out of the hole! My 03 had it too but it wasnt near as drastic. What torque management does is backs your timming off and even keeps your throttle blade from completely opening when you launch hard and it does it too at shift points when you have it floored. they claim they do it for gas milage but my opionion is they do it to insure the transmittion makes it through warantee! My 285 hp 03 will run circles around this truck! cant wait to take it out with the predetor. Should really wake this thing up or at least offset the loss in power from the bigger tires i put on it.

Depending on how much more the new tires and wheels weigh over the stockers, The added rolling mass could eaisly gobble up 25+ HP, Also what gear ratio does the new truck have? A 250 HP truck with a set of 4.11 gears will feel way faster than a 300hp truck with 3.08 gears. Taller tires will only exastorbate this.

that my freied is the problem. The old truck was a short box std cab with 373 gears. The new one is a club cab with 343s The weight dissadvantage isnt as great as you think as the old one had a cast iron block and the new one is an aluminum blocked motor. But it sure does need steeper gears. I asked the dealership about changing them to 410s and they told me 2 grand and i about choked. They also told me if i had someone else do it it would void my driveline warantee if they could prove it caused any problems which means if the tranny goes its because of those gears  So my only alteritive was to put the programmer on and take out the torque managment and hope for a few more ponys to boot and live with the gears for now. Tire size change isnt to drastic. Im going from 265s to 285s and the rims i bought are quite a bit lighter then stock so that may offset a little of it. The biggest problem is that stupid torque management the 03 had it but a much lighter setting and you couldnt even tell driving it. But floor this one out of the hole and you can feel it back off. Hell it wont even spin a tire and the 03 would flat roast them. I guess im 50 now and shouldnt be thinking of stuff like this but i guess ill never grow up!!

I don't mean to sound smart alleckly, But it is a 4x4 club cab pickup truck don't expect acceleration miricles, If you want fast launches you should have bought a Mustang.

With the current price of gas I believe I'ed just drive the truck and enjoy the warranty

ill tell you something. I had an 86 iroc and a 92 vette up till about two years ago. Lined the 03 silverado 4x4 short box std cab up against the iroc and guess which won at least to 80mph. Just because you drive a truck doesnt mean you cant have performance.

86 iroc LOL that's not saying much the HIGEST hp engine for that year is a wopping 215 ponies.

From reading the gist of your posts I don't thing that anything short of supercharging is going to make you really happy with this truck. You're not going to do any easy bolt on fix or upgrade that will cause this truck to run as good as your old one the taller gears added weight and heavier tires are just too much to overcome.

But, Hey I'm no rustang fan! Mustang , Maxima , Impreza , Charger just kind of a generic term for a car that runs good.

one of those underpowered irocs run about the same 1/4 mile as a 65 gto and i guess they werent considered slugs. If you think a truck isnt a performance vehicle try my buddys duramax with a bully dog programmer and a big exaust. It will show tailights to almost any so called performance car.

WOW... Looks like they had a whole 10hp on the chevy from 87 -92, but then it was back to the weaksauce until 99....  BTW wasnt 99 the year ford lied to the cobra buyers, telling them they had 320hp when in fact all they had was the same lame motor as the gt???

Lloyd Smale: What kind of HP/TQ increase does the diablo offer for your application?

there claiming about 20 hp. I dont know if its true or not. But where you really gain is in trans performance. It shifts firmer and at a slightly higher rpm and getting rid of some of the torque managment makes it feel like you gained 50!
