Contender bipod?

I just bought a 44 mag barrel with a brake on it. I want to mount a bipod on it. What do ya'll recommend. I like the look of the Harris bi-pod, how do they mount? thanks Scott

Graytex,
  I use a Harris bipod (6"-9") with a Harris barrel clamp on my Super 14 in .223. It works fine, but I would also like to know if there is an alternate way to mount a bipod on Contenders. I'm not crazy about clamping to the barrel, but like I said it works fine.

I have seen the barrel clamps too, and I'm not to sure about them either. Is that the only way I wonder or is there an alternative? Thanks for the input.

I followed these instructions (very easy) and must admit to being especially pleased with the results. I was recently using these shooting sticks to practice with my 7-30 Waters. They made a huge difference in my ability to stay on target. I find a 14" barrel especially difficult to hold steady.

I drilled the fore arm for a sling stud and use a Harris bipod This is the best /lightest fix I have found. I tried the barrel mount but the recoil from my 358 JDJ ripped the bolts loose. I did not notice the sling was caught under a sand bag before I pulled the trigger. I use the stud on milder rounds like the 6.5jdj or 30-30.hope this helps,  jh

There is a company that makes a sling swivel that will replace the front screw on the forend. Works just like a rifle, you can carry your hunting pistol with a sling attached to the bipod.  Also, you can use it to replace the screw on a Pachmyr hanger bar.  Works excellent.
  Also, if you cant find one, you can get a threaded sling swivel, and modify it with a the proper amount of small washers and a nut to hold them in place.  Works excellent.  I would be a little afraid of screwing a stud into the wood.  It might not last very long, but then, it might work just fine.  The worst thing that could happen is it might strip out the hole, no big deal.

Robert that is exactly what I'm looking for. I've tried all the vendors I can find and no one carries that part. If anyone knows who sales that item please relay the address.  thanks Scott

  Thanks for the pic and tips. That looks like a better setup than the barrel clamp. Also who makes the sling? Uncle Mikes? I have the Pachmayr grips and was looking for a sling set up to use with the rubber grips.
 I also liked the postson the shooting stix.

been using my homemade shooting stix while out coyote huntin with my 6br encore. no dogs yet for me, but my buddy killed a couple. but anyway the homemade tent pole shooting stix work great in most setups. i bought a small spring clip at the hardware that i clip on my belt loop. just slide the stix in the ring and makes them easy to pack on your side.
i also bought a caldwell handgun rest for my bench shooting. it is great and money well spent. they are not too expensive about $ 30 from midwayusa, if i remember right. adjustable and solid as a rock. :D

You might try The T/C Shop--Parkville, Mo  shop 816-741-5563.  I  bought
a couple of sling swivel bolts that screw into front hole of forearm from him.  They had to be shortened a little bit but work great with Harris bipods or slings.

I seem to mount my swivels to the forearm different than anyone else.  I have had the type that screw directly into the wood pull out.  I use the stud with the machine screw thread and a nut.  I have posted my method on here before, but it is alot of typing.  It would probably be best if you were going to mount a bipod to it.  If interested, let me know and I will tell you how to do it.
