336, 35 Rem. double feeding
« on: May 14, 2006, 05:30:38 AM »
Looking at a 336 in 35 Rem. to buy. The lever does"t want to stay closed, it comes open enough that it won't fire. When I lever a shell into chamber, the next shell in magazine comes back past the feeding gate into the ramp to put it into the chamber. I don't know the correct terms for whats happening. Any help?

The tip on the carrier assembly coming up, at the right time is what stops the next cartridge from entering the receiver.  My guess is the carrier assembly is worn, or some one trying to "tune" the gun has filed off the stop.  Again, without seeing the rifle, just a guess.
