Shot a bow for the first time today.
« on: April 03, 2006, 09:40:06 AM »
My new PSE Bruin and I went to the range today.  We were able to keep about 95% of the shots within an 8" circle at 15 yrds.  I guess for a 63 year old man and a new bow that ain't bad.  I'd never shot a bow before and it became quickly apparent that some of my handgun shooting experience transferred right over to the bow.  Relax, smooth trigger pull, concentrate on the front (and only) sight.  Anyway, it looks like I'm hooked.  There's a big outdoor range near here that's open next Saturday and with any luck I'll be able to stop by and try my skills at longer range.  This was a good decision, I know already.

keep up the practice dusty.  in no time you'll be staying in the 5 ring at 20 with 99% of your shots.

If you think you're hooked now wait until you take your first deer with one ... for that matter, just to feel the adrenaline when a deer starts walking into bow range

Congrats on the new bow, are you planning to hunt with it?
Oh by the way..they should put a WARNING on bows...Buying a bow may cause loss or lack of money, because when you get into it their is lots of goodies that you will want

Welcome to the stick and string world. I always find it a blast to be in the woods with my bow. Every bow kill in my book is a trophy, no matter the size.  :D

Amen to that ... exactly what I say, every deer you legally take with a bow is a trophy.

I would not call bow hunting an addiction ... ok, yes I would.

The only reason I do firearms season is for 2 extra weekends a year and last year and this year my primary firearm is a iron sight handgun. Dont want to make too easy on myself

I got my first buck with a bow, actually my first deer ever last year. good sized 6 pointer. I think it took an hour for my knees to stop shaking. Have had them come up behind me before and you are right about the rush!
