If you're so undecided that you're down to asking a public forum and using that opinion to decide whether to propose or not, then I say you should definately NOT get married.  Your future spouse would trample you like herd of angry buffalo.  :-D  :-D

.

If you want to end your life, why not just throw yourself in front of a truck?

Your life will be just as over, and you won't have to listen to it for the next 20 years.

My question is, how do you get to the age of 35 and not have any idea about the pros and cons of marriage?  Where have you been?

It might be better to ask for advice on what to look for in woman--you are talking about a woman--right?

After 15 years of marriage I'm still not sure whether marriage is a net loss or a net gain. It can really be a suffocating burden at times. It can also be a lot of fun. In our case, it creates a union and a set of skills and strengths that far exceed our individual capabilities.  Men and women travel in different spheres: it's a source of strength and a source of conflict.  We've got a couple of great kids.  I love those kids with all my heart and I can't wait until they're out of the house so I don't have to hassle with them anymore-- both statements are true.  I can't go fishing and hunting as often as I would be able to if I were single, and the trips I am able to take are less expensive and of shorter duration. I also have a much harder and time consuming job than I'd need if I were single.  Having a family requires lots of money.

My recommendation? When you're ready to get married, you'll know.

With so little background info offered, I think this question was posted as a prank, myself. :?

If not, think of it this way... if by age 35 you've managed to live a reasonably satisfactory life without the aid/support of a resident, significant other, why go and screw-up your system now, you're WAY ahead of most who've tried to make 'commitment' work.

Too often 'commitment' means one of the two now owns the other's existence and the previous independent self the other once had is now null and void. :x

Remember, marriage is an institution, and who the Hell wants to live in an institution!

My question is, if once bitten yields twice shy, what does 2, maybe 2 1/2 times bitten equal?

:D I couldn't resist.    At 35, a man should know his mind and feeling for a situation as serious as marriage.  If you have to ask someone else's opinion of your ability to dance, then you don't belong on the dance floor. :-D

Find yourself a woman that hates your guts and buy her a house.

It'll be cheaper in the long run.

Swamp Fox....I just passed a mouthful of coffee through my nose.
Excellent post with very few words....

Well...marriage is the most work you'll ever do, constant patience, always try to be tuned in to your better half, and go through all the phases of her life and your own.
If it doesn't work out, Swamp Fox is right on the money...it's expensive.
Not to mention the wrath of a woman can be mentally harmful should it not work out.
If you do get married...take it all the way, work hard on it, and you'll enjoy what some others have enjoyed.  Can't explain what it feels like when you make it through hard times and you fall in love again with the same gal you married, but it's worth all the effort if your lucky enough to get there.

Yes.

There is another one that goes something like.

"that's not my beautifull house.

that's not my beautifull wife..

:D My young bride and I have enjoyed two years of wedding bliss, course there were 45 years of mortal combat   preceding that..

Marriage can be wonderful if approached properly.  First, there must be a mutual respect,  trust and freedom to pursue each oneÂ’s dreams and goals.  Second, Money should never be the basis for an argument.  If both work, each should have their own checking and savings accounts and be responsible for bills according to their purchases, and obligations toward maintaining the household.

Marriage will always be a rough road, if either party is immature, lacking self esteem, and does not trust their partner. If both are adults, and can conduct themselves as adults it will work out.  I am not saying there will never be disagreements, but where they occur, they should be resolved as quickly as possible, and forgotten.  Never bring up an issue after it has been hashed out.

I know there have been times when my bride wanted to kill me,  and I have thought about it a time or two, but we have always been able to work things out and enjoy each otherÂ’s company

By  the way, my wife's Indian name is Five Horses, for short I just call her , Nag, Nag, Nag, Nag, Nag........... :-D

A man and his ever-nagging Wife went on vacation to Jerusalem.

While they were there, the Wife passed away. The undertaker told the Husband, "You can have her shipped home for $5,000, or you can bury her here, in the Holy Land, for $150." The man thought about it and told him he
would just have her shipped home.

The undertaker asked, "Why would you spend $5,000 to ship your wife
home, when it would be wonderful to be buried here and you would
spend only $150?"

The man replied, "Long ago a man died here, was buried here, and
three days later he rose from the dead. I just can't take that chance."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My wife told me we couldn't afford beer anymore and I'd have to quit.
Then I caught her spending $85.00 on makeup.
I asked how come I had to give up stuff and not her.
She said she needed the makeup to look pretty for me.
I told her that was what the beer was for...

I don't think she's coming back.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My wife left me - she said I never listened to her, or something like that...
