I just happened to see a .243 Winchester Super Short Magnum (WSSM) case lying on the ground at the range the other day and it captured my interest. I'm wondering if any of you guys are loading for it and if so how well do they shoot. I looked in my books but none seem to have that load in them. The Lee manual is brand new so I thought it might be in there but nope.
Anything you can tell me about this caliber, and what rifle you are using it in, would be appreciated.

My wife owns one of these. This one came to our house because she thought the rifle was "pretty" and the cartridges were "cute". I have had a time with it where reloading is concerned and the accuracy just isn't up to snuff,in my opinion.

Others on this site have them but results and opinions vary. Personally, if I was wanting something in the 6mm class,I'd buy a standard 243.

I don't think the WSSM concept will not stick around very long.

IMO it would be hard to beat a .243 Winchester with another 6mm. I've owned .243's most of my life and it's just a great caliber that shoots flat, plus the factory ammo is low priced and highly available, recoil is light, and is usually very accurate in most rifles. Reloading brings this round into it's own realm.......the .243 winchester will be around for a very long time.......

I'm just curious, does your wife have an A-bolt or Model 70? (Do they chamber other models for the super-short mag's?)

Hers is the Browning. I think its the MicroHunter. The stock is a beautiful piece of wood. Great grain and stuff. If it shot as good as it looks I'd have something!

I got a Winchester model 70 last year just before hunting season. Got a nice 2x3 blacktail with it. Buddy of mine picked it up and burned a coyote first shot. Per the range finder 580 yards. I like mine so far. Handloads are moa and it is one of the lightest rifles I have.
