KICKING YOUR OWN BUTTTTTTT
« on: April 04, 2003, 02:39:33 AM »
HAVE YOU EVER JUST DONE SOMETHING SO STUPID YOU FELT THAT YOU SHOULD KICK YOUR OWN BUTTTTTTT? WELL THAT HAPPENED TO ME THIS MORNING. 5:45 THIS MORNING I HEARD MY FIRST GOBBLE. I SET UP ON THE BIRD AND STARTED YELPING SOFTLY. AFTER MY FIRST YELP HE GOBBLED, AND GOBBLED, AND GOBBLED. I THOUGHT TO MY SELF THIS IS GOING TO BE A EASY ONE. AFTER ABOUT 5 OR SO MINUTES OF LOVELY CONVERSATION THE BIRD FLEW DOWN. 10 MIUTES WENT BY AND NONTHING. JUST THEN I HEARD IT. HE WAS ABOUT 35 TO 40 YARDS TO MY LEFT DRUMMING. HERE IS WERE IT GETS STUPID. THE BIRD WAS DIRECTLY TO MY LEFT. I ON THE OTHER HAND SET UP BEHIND THIS STUPID BUSH WHICH I COULDN'T SEE HIM. SO I SIT THERE STRAINING MY EYES CLUCTCHING MY GUN AS THE BIRD STUTS BEHIND THE BUSH TO THE LEFT OF ME. I COULDN'T DO A THING BUT SIT THERE AND LISTEN. IF I HAD ONLY SET UP JUST AHEAD OF WERE I WAS AT I COULD HAVE GOT HIM. SO FINNALLY I GUESSE HE GOT TIRED OF NOT SEEING HIS HEN SO HE LEFT ME THERE WANTING TO KICK MY OWN BUTTTTTTTT. BUT ON THE BRIGHT SIDE THERES ALWAYS TOMORROW.

Yep, Know the feeling. Two years ago I was walking back to the truck when one gobbled right on top of me. I sat down at the closest tree and just purred and scratched in the leaves like a hen. The old boy couldn't stand it and came in gobbling every step of the way. Unfortunately there was a log down right in front of me and that created a slight rise in the terrain. The gobbler strutted right up to that rise and just stopped and gobbled. All I could see was the top couple of inches in his fan. Less than twenty yards away and thundering the ground and I couldn't see him. All I wanted him to do was poke his head over the log and give me a shot but would he do that? Nooooo, he had to be difficult. Finaly he got tired of playing games and just walked back from where he came. Hindsight, I probably could have waited until he was in the middle of a gobble and been able to have stood straight up and shot him. Didn't think of that one at the time..

Well, it seemed like a good idea at the time....ES
