just wondering will a tanned hide keep for a long time, would i be able to use it like a rug?

Depends on the aminal how long it will last.  A bear, not very long. They are very oily and the more they are touched the faster it comes out of the hide.  Antelope not at all, the hairs are hollow and break off very easily.  A whitey may last a while but will lose hair.  I would say that a beefer would last the longest.
