ok made up my mind...I hope
« on: May 09, 2006, 05:25:28 AM »
I've been giving consideration to rebarelling a 338WM to 416RM or going with another rifle in 458WM it's been a tough descion for a guy whom is in love with his 375H&H.
But alas I've made up my mind...I think I'll buy a CZ American Safari  in 458Lott then for most shooting I'll load 458WM into it as I dislike really big recoil and I have a bunch of .458 componets for handloading. I can download the 458WM for deer and blk bears as well.
What do you guys think of this idea?

This is just my opinion. I just would never rebarrel my gun to anything else.  If i have a 338 win mag, then I keep it as that and just buy a new gun...WHAT A GREAT EXECUSE FOR A NEW GUN :)

That is exactly how I  wound up with a 54 gun Liberty safe filled with the overflow in my closet
I've decided at 50+ yrs of age it is time to begin sliming down the herd a tad, so now for each "must have" I force myself to sell off at least 1  sometimes 2using the extra $ for hunting trips. I sold off 4 to fund the trip for cape buffalo that caused me to think I need a bigger bore than 375 H&H.

May I ask why you want something bigger than a 375 h&h ?

Oh on another note, I just would not get ride of a 338 win mag, its just.... its one of those "must haves / must keeps".  Get rid of something else, shooo anything but the 338 WM.

I had a similar instance...  you know when you decide you want a gun, and really want it?  I went to the local shop, and they were going to order me a 550AS in .375HH, but the supplier was out...  quick thinking, I ask, do they have the .458lott?  Sure do, so I decided to get it right there on the spot, and never looked back.  Now I actually believe I like my choice better than the .375!

Why not look at the 46 Rigby in the CZ American Safari? I have one and it is a tack driver.  :D

'cause Rigby ammo is #1 expensive #2 hard to reload for #3 All I need is some Lott brass and I'm ready to go as my Win Mag componets will work there

If you are going to reload, the 416 Rigby is not expensive, no more expensive than a 458 Lott. It is not hard at all to reload, where did you come up with that? Now loaded 416 Rigby ammo is expensive. But if you reload there is no need to buy loaded ammo.  It was just a suggestion anyway's, sorry.
