I just recently helped my taxidemist do a buck for me.  A nice 12 pointer that I shot with the bow last fall.  I was suprised how little there was to it.  I would say that it took about 4 hours minus the tanning process (which I did not help with).  There obviously is some art to it that you can't learn over night, but it was an amazingly simple process.  If I could figure out how to post a picture I would, it turned out great.

Yes the process is simple, but making the deer look good is another question. There is a lot of fine detail that goes into a quality mount. JMHO.  :D

I agree, detailing takes some tricks and an eye for it, but there still isn't a lot to it.  I have a huge pair of antlers that my neighbor gave to me a few years ago.  Its really cool, 14pt with 2 massive drop tines.  It scores almost 180.  My taxidermist is giving me a cape, and I am going to see what I can do with it.

I already did my first mount.  I did every thing but painting.  And there was nothing to that.   I had some instruction, and my taxidermist showed me how to do the detailing on one side, I did the other. Looks as good or better than any of my professional mounts.  So how much would you like to put down??? At ten to one,  lol.
