.260 loads

i don't expect exact powder measurements, but just wondering if any particular powder/bullet combo that works in their .260 encore. so far i've used h4350, h4831, imr4831. h4350 seems the best so far. with 120gr. speer hotcors and nosler BTs the best velocity i can muster is about 3000fps, but i'm getting cratered primers, so i've had to back off below listed max. thinking about trying h414 and RL19.

The powders which gave the best accuracy with 120s in both of my .260s were H4895 and RL19.  For higher veocities try both H414 and RL19 - coincidentally they gave the best combination of accuracy and velocity for me.  Varget was also a top performer.  Cratered primers, depending on the rifle, can signify excessive pressures, although 3000 fps with 120xs isn't excessive from a 24" barrel.  But component lots differ, as do barrels, so it is not uncommon to find listed max loads to be too hot for soem shooters.

I have had good luck in a 6.5 x 55 (about the same case cap. as the 260) with Varget and 120 gr Sierras.  I can't remember the grains but it was about one less than the max. I used Win. cases & primers.   I hope to try them on antelope this fall if I'm lucky enough to draw a tag.
