How's Remington Doing?
« on: March 02, 2006, 05:14:52 PM »
I'm just wondering how the company is doing.  The fact that no one has bought Winchester's manufacturing rights yet leaves me with these questions.  Is the market for new firearms still healthy?  Are sales up or down for Remington, Ruger, Savage, Marlin.  Is there anywhere I can get these things on a regular basis or are they not known to the general public?  I would just like to keep updated about how my favorite hobby's suppliers are doing.  Thanks!

In my opinion, I think the Quality is'nt as good as it once was.I hear bad things about their barrels, actions, the bluing, the synthedic stocks and there triggers.Quanity is there, there firearms are selling more then they
use too. 8)

F-Rod,
BATF and several non-governmental organizations do compile annual firearms production using several different classifications (gun type and company). There are other organization that track company performance and these include sales figures (for a modest fee). Saw some stats on long arm production recently, just can't remember where  it was  :? , upshot of the report was that long arms production appears to be flat for the last 5-10 years and I suspect is likely to stay that way.

Go here:
http://www.amfire.com/php/container.php?content=../htm/statistics/production1973-2004.htm

Summary for the last five years of US firearms production of record:
...................1999.............2003
Rifles: .......1,569,685...1,430,324
Shotguns: 1,106,995......726,078
Revolvers: ...335,704......309,364
Pistols: ........995,440.....811,660

Bottom line - a loss in US production of almost 750,000 guns.  How much of this loss was taken up by foreign makers was not stated.
