I've been away from muzzle loading for some time but have the bug again. I'm a traditionalist with no interest in the in-lines. I'm not putting them down. They're just not for me. One of the rifles I used to have when I first got into this was a Dixie Tennessee Mountain Rifle in .50 cal. As luck would have it, I've run across one in mint condition for a fair price and have decided to take the plunge. I've been looking at some of the old posts on this forum and look forward to exchanging information and experience.

The first flintlock rifle I took a deer with was a Dixie TMR.  Good rifles.  Welcome back into the fold.  I took a few year hiatus from muzzleloaders, tho they were never far removed from my heart, and came back full force 3-4 years ago.  Hope you enjoy being back as much as I have!!

I have a Dixie Tennessee Mountain Rifle that I built from the kit about 25 years ago. That is one nice rifle. I did modify it a little, I replaced the grease hole with a nice silver patchbox.
A few years ago I was saddened to see that they had discontinued this fine rifle from their catalog.

Welcome back to muzzleloading!

Picked up rifle today. It's in great shape. Can't wait to hit the range! I feel like a kit a Christmas.

Get those round balls and patches and head to the range!
Is this one of the old ones that was made in Belgium, or was it made in Japan?

Turner Kirkland at Dixie Gun Works first had them made in Belgium, back in the '50s and '60s.
I bought mine in 1979 and it was made in Japan.
The Japanese ones are very high quality. Mine has a beautiful curly cherry stock, I guess Japan grows lots of cherry trees.

gun case
« Reply #10 on: May 16, 2006, 02:05:44 PM »
I need a good recommendation on a gun case for my new TMR. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've looked on-line at DGW offerings and those of the Log Cabin Shop in Lodi Ohio. Any other suggestions?
