Problem with Encore 6BR barrel
«

Last night I went to the range and tried another load with N135 for the 6BR. After firing the fisrt round the case came out of the chamber all covered with black soot. I fired two more rounds and they same thing happened. I stopped shooting it and changed barrels and the breech face was all black from smoke residue. I have fired several loads with H322 and never noticed this before. It appears that the case is not expanding to seal the chamber and gases are blowing back thru the chamber.

Your getting poor ignition with your load. You could try a mag primer, or go to another powder. If you do that, back yor load off a little and work back up. Why did you abandon the H-322? I would think it would be a good powder for the 6BR. KN

N135 and H322 are the ONLY powders used for the 6br by most.
I would recheck the load.
Something just dont add up. It is NOT the powder.
And mag primers are not used in the 6Br.
maybe light loads is the problem?

The only powders I like for my 6BR is IMR4064 30.2grs with a 75gr V-Max and H-322 30.5grs with 70gr HP.IMR4064 burns nice and clean in my barrel

Jay... Sounds like a bent barrel to me. Might also be a loose nut behind the trigger. Your best bet is to sell it to me at Tusco next weekend. Besides, 6mm is WAY too small for you. :-D C'ya there...g

See ya at TUSCO.

Nothing wrong with H322 as I have shot some great groups. I just wanted to try some Vit loads. I was using the Hornady 58 gr V-Max bullet and Rem. 7 1/2 primers. I talke to Hammer 47 the other night and he thinks the powder is to slow for the 58 gr. bullet.

NOSLERS Reloading Manual #4 states :
Reloading this round (6mmBR) is a simple process, but one must use a small magnum rifle primer. This small primer is a key factor in its accuracy.
I have found this to be true shooting the 6mmBR the last two years.
