H&R---NEF----SCOPE'S ?
« on: May 16, 2006, 03:43:38 PM »
Well, In the last month I bought a new NEF Sportster 17 hmr. also a H&R Ultra taper bbl. in 243 win. Both guns are mounted with a Bushnell 3x9x40 Trophy scope, while shooting at the range( aprox. 125 yds.)on 9 power the target is a little blurry on both guns , and more optic power is needed . Can any one tell me about a better scope for both gun's ? Also the price must be under $ 200.00. The 17 HMRis a tack driver even with this scope. The Ultra 243 win. is also having groups good for most types of hunting but is limited by the scope that is on the gun.----Thank's.

Check out Swift optics. They make a 4-12, a 4.5-14, and a 6-18, any one of which you should be able to pick up under $200. They have a lifetime warrenty, good clear optics, and seem to be good quality for the price.

I second Swift as well, Simmons also has some good choices in thier Pro-Hunter line. Both guns are mild recoiling so at the least a Tasco T/V would work, i have a 6-24x42M on my .308.

Are the crosshairs blurry?  Have you adjusted the focus?

Thank's to every one for the reply's, Yes I did try to focus the scopes on 9x but at 125yds. they were still not real clear, the cross hair is clear.    I have a Simmons 6.5x20x50mm WTC on the way from Midway USA , should be here next week. I am going to try it out on the 17HMR first, may keep the Bushnell on the Ultra 243 as shots in this part of the country are not that far away(30-100yds. unless you are hunting on a powerline or large food plot.----Thank's.

I use the Simmons Whitetail  6.5x20x50 on my Ultra Varmit 204 and 223 with excelllent results. Just put a Bushnell Trophy 3x9x40 on my new rainbow stocked 270 Handi,  really happy with how clear the scope is, though I haven't shot the rifle yet.
