cor-bon
« on: April 01, 2003, 04:52:31 AM »
As someone who does not reload and who isn't sure they want to reload, how are Cor-Bon hunting bullets?

I was thinking about the 45 colt/mag +P 300JSP for my 45 colt barrel for hunting black bear in PA.  I was also looking at the 150 gr bonded-core spitzer bullet for deer.  I will of course by factory ammo for practice.

Anyone have experience with Cor-Bon ammo?

What is a "spitzer" type bullet?

Thanks.

I haven't used any of their hunting bullets but from experience with other products from them I have learned that they exceed all of Cor-Bon's claims in velocity and accuracy.  Therefore, it only stands to reason that the hunting bullets will perform, to a minimum, as advertised.

A spitzer is a pointed bullet.  I've used Cor Bon 300 Whisper ammo and it's very accurate.  Their pistol loads are normaly hotter than most factory rounds and, in a strong gun, the 45 Colt load should be a good bear load.

I'm real pleased with the Corbon hard cast loads for the .41 magnum and took a caribou with them last fall.   I think the 45 Colt loads would be good too.

I'm confused by your post, I seriously doubt they make a 150 spitzer for the 45 Colt.  Are you referring to some other cartridge?

Oooops...I was thinking about the 150 spitzer in 30-30.  My brain was slightly working but not my fingers.

My thought was the heavier bullet in .45 for bear and the 30-30 for deer.

Sorry for my lapse.  And thanks to everyone so far for the information.

Don't use spitzers in a tube magazine 30-30

Maybe I'm telling you something you already know but DON'T ever use spitzers in a tube magazine 30-30 like Marlin 336 or Win 94.  That pointy bullet may set off a primer in the magazine and make a dangerous mess. Single shot rifles and hand guns or bolt rifles are another story. I only have experience with a Win 94. Maybe some of the Contender guys can chime in with their experiences of spitzers in 30-30?
