Thanks Lloyd, Not the answer I wanted to hear, but you can't change the facts. I guess I will have to be happy with a 357 Mag  Mack

I know this is a marlin thread but, since Winchester make the 357mag in the Model 94 action which has a longer throw that rifle might work. Be worth checking into if your serious about the maxium.

Victor Charlie made a good point, with a 336 in 35 Remington, you can load from 38 levels to beyond the 357 Maximum.  Mine shoots 158-grain Remington (Only) pistol bullets into TINY groups with 9 grains of Unique.  My son loves them, lots of noise but little to no recoil, and they're NASTY on little critters.  The 336 feeds everything, the action is slicker than bear snot, the only downside would be magazine capacity.  But trying to get an 1894 to feed a shell that long would take some MAJOR reworking, and that ain't cheap.  I had an NEF Handi-Rifle in 357 Max years ago, and loved the cartridge, but I like my 35 Remington a lot more.  From mild to wild, it does everything I would want a rifle to do.  Plus it looks good, and shoots better!

I experimented around with my 1894C to try the change.  Came up with the possibility that it could be done if the ejector was shorter.

The chamber has to be reemed of course but the rounds WILL cycle and the EMPTY brass will eject with the shorter ejector because it will allow the empty brass back far enough on the cocking stroke to eject it.

My 1894C is from the mid 80's.  The ejector has a LONG spring on it.  I say long 'cause my new 1894CL has a shorter spring on the ejector. Seems if the spring can function shorter, can the ejector itself function shorter?
