weird ammuntion

i got a abotu 75 rounds of this ammo, it is on links and i dont kno the caliber it was for a heavy machine gun and it hasa no projectile, exept there is a red thing inside of the bullet, weird stuff, anyone know what this stuff is, i was thinking incindiary or a traccer

I think you mean there is no bullet and the mouth of the case has red on it.  It sounds like blank ammo.  Is the mouth of the case crimped to where it looks like pleats on a skirt?  Measure the length of the case, that will help ID what it is made for.  Is it rimmed or rimless?

I'll  wager that it is 7.62x51 (308) blanks.

forgot something!
7.62x51 blanks are not crimped.
they have a long hollow "snout"
instead of a bullet. The red "thing"
is the cardboard wad inside the snout.
Watch the Rambo movie where
Stalone comes back and shoots up the
communications center with the M-60.
The blank shells are what falls all over
the floor (an oversite by the producer i'm sure)

yeah i think that is what they are casue there is no crimps
