Has anyone mounted a scout scope on a 760 or 7600 and if so, who did the work?  Thanks, Ian

I think I understand what your driving at.  It would be difficult to mount a scope forward of the receiver on a Rem pump (a scout set up is  a scope with low power and long eye relief set up forward of the receiver).  I have a 7600 carbine in 30 06 that I mounted a low power variable on - ( bushnell 1.5 - 4.5X) and it works fine.  It shoots very well and is pretty accurate.  With lower setting it is quite easy to see and track through the scope.  At least on the doe I have tried it on.  Now all I have to do is get some game shooting with it. I have had it 2 years and still waiting for the decent buck.  Despite all the BS out of Harrisburg PA game Commision, they have just about ruined PA deer hunting.

I agree with strut64 that the mount would have to be mounted to the receiver.  I assume that one of the extended mounting rails I have seen for assualt rifles could be made to work.  The rail could be extended out over the barrel not contacting it.  Over sized screws and epoxy could be used to secure the rail.

 I would not do it.  My old M760 has been in the field for close to fifty years now.  It has worn at least three different scopes over the years.  But for most of those years it has worn a 3x9 and I have not had any problems.  For a couple of years I had a peep sight on the back.  It was every thing I needed for fast close range work.

The blueing on my rifle is very thin from hours of carry at the magzine well.  That is the balance point for the rifle with iron sights or with a scope in the standard mounting location.  I think the comfort of that carry would be lost if a scope was mounted over the barrel.

A mount similar to this one might work.
