Im fixing to send my H&R ultra hunter back to the factory around the 24th of this month to be be fitted with the 45/70 Gov't barrel and im thinking about mounting a tasco world class 3x9x50 using the weaver 4x4 medium height quad rings will these give me enough clearance between the barrel and the front scope bell.

Going straight to the question at hand: If the Medium Weaver Quad Lock rings will cater to a the World Class 50mm bell...while I have no proof with the 3-9x50 model especially, I kind of doubt it. I use the Quad Locks on a couple of my rifle and with my Handis I use the Highs. Biggest bell on mine is 44mm with AO, meaning it's close to 50mm. Main problem is the rear variable or rear bell on the scope, getting it to clear the hammer. If your determined to do it though, get the Mediums form Walmart, and see if they clear. If not go back and exchange them for Highs. While not the greatest rings by anymeans, if carefully adjusted, they work just fine.

So you think i need to go with the high rings.sounds like the best bet this way i'll have the clearance on the front bell and the hammer.hey the weaver rings don't cost much around $20.00 bucks from midway usa.I have a set of old simmons medium height rings i can try.

I believe you can pick up a pair at Walmart for around $12 or so. Just depends on if you feel like fighting the crowd
If your willing to spend at least $20 on rings, and from Midway, then I say just go for these:
http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=357230

or

http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=661118
These are a little higher than most rings I have found, and here the Mediums will probably fit.

Hey myarmor i kinda like the millett 1" angle-lock windage adjustable weaver-style rings.they look high enough and you can adjust the windage in case the scope mount holes are not in line with the barrel.same problem i had with my 270 barrel using the simmons rings went to the weaver top mount rings did a little shimming on the scope rail soved the problem.

I have the medium height Millet Angle locs on a Simmons 6.5x20x50mm scope on my Bull barrelled Handi in .223. They work great and there is enough clearance on both ends....<><....

Wonder how the millett rings would hold under the recoil of the 45/70 though.I read the ratings on midwayusa one guy said he kept shearing the mounts off under heavy recoil  :?

Yeah go to midwayusa's site and go to the scope rings section and lookup the medium height millett rings and read the customer review section.

I don't care for the design of the Millett Angle Loc rings.  They are difficult to align and the "windage adjustment" is a BAD, BAD idea.  There is no way to adjust these rings except by kinking the scope.  That being said, the rings are hard as heck.  The ones that I have are heavy, strong steel I doubt if they were shearing off due to recoil.  More likely they were not mounted correctly.  The Midway reviews are handy, but like everything on the internet they should be taken with a grain of salt.  If you hang here or on another forum then you can get a feel for someone's personality.  One shot product reviews are a crapshoot.

Yeah im thinking the weaver top mounts i have a set on my 270 barrel and they seem to be doing pretty good i bought them used from a local gunsmith they seem solid and i can shoot a 1" group with the 270 at 100 yards.
