:D
Hey gentlemen, I have come to you all the experts to ask yet another question. I broke down and bougth a wonderful Para Ordanance Carry 45 ACP. It has a 3" barrel and is all stainless steel.  8) Does anyone have any recommendations for defense ammo??? Whatgrain would you use and brand. :biggun: I know I need to go to the range and shoot different brands but I was wondering whatshould I go out and buy first. :agree:  :noway: Should I stick to a 230 grain round or 200 or even 180. :idea3: Could anyone give me some good roads to start with. :?

This is the best Forum and you guys are great. Thanks

best bet in a 3 inch gun is 230 hardball. The 3 inchers usually dont get enough velocity to expand hps anyway and they can be borderline in the reliability dept. Hardball hits hard and runs reliably.

I would opt for the lighter higher velocity rounds. First choice would be a Gold Dot, second maybe a Hydra shock. But as Lloyd stated some HP stuff might not function well. I have a P-12 that hates HP, but never misses a lick with hard ball.   KN

New Ammo

there is some new aamo out  It's made by Speer Golddot FOR SHORT BARRELS  Yes Speer has made some new aamo to the market. So, I picked some up.  Speer made this ammo so that it will expand out of a short barrel gun like the 3" models.  This is just an FYI for those of you in the same boat I am in.

Right now I'm running Corbon +P 200 grn, but I've heard a lot of good stuff about the Speer Short barrel stuff you mentioned.  A friend of mine that owns a gun shop in town recommended it and a firearms instructor also recommended it.  By the way, I carry a Kimber Ultra Carry which has the 3" barrel.  Fortunately this Kimber, much like its owner, will eat pretty much anything you serve up! :)

I have always found that the best bet for the shorter 45 autos is the heavier loads.  The 230 gn ball works just fine as do the hotter 230 gn defense or police loads.  Some of the lighter weight loads don't work those pistols as well as they should.  A good comparison is to the old British 455 Webley from the short barrelled revolvers - a 225 gn slug that only moved at about 600'/sec from those old guns would 'de-horse' a rider at 25 yds.  45 ball from a 3" auto will do the same or better.  HTH.  Mikey.
