I have not seen shortages in the US, but it is a global market.  When I was in Tulum, Mexico 04/28-05/08, most of the rural stations were sold out of all but the 93, and there were two stations I saw that had all pumps covered even though the convienent store portion was open.  The US will be the last to suffer the shortage, but we pay the global price (which some may not believe, but US prices are by far the lowest in the oil consuming world.  We must get a bulk buyer discount)

It's true that some people won't or can't pay the price (international and domestic).

I swear that if some of the stay at home mothers and teenagers (many with their own vehicles that are nicer than mine) who live in my neighborhood didn't make multiple trips to walmart, mcdonalds, wendys, etc per day gas consumption would drop several percent.  :-)

Of course pricing in some countries is due to them having almost zilch in production and refining capacity as well as even higher taxes on gas than we do. Remember our government makes more per gallon than the oil company does.
