Hi i got a ruger stainless steel barreal and synthetic stock with a millet 3x9x40mm scope own it and zeored it in at 50 yards i hunted in a bottom of a creek and killed my first buck a eight point with sixteen inch spread and weighed 240 pounds and i shoot him with a 150gr remi corelokt, it went straight through him and instantly droped him , i am hunting with a .280 caliber , so i went to sporting goods store since i wasnt satisfied with the bullet cause i wanted something that mushroomed up realy good so i buyed a box of winchester supreme 140gr ballistic silvertips and shoot a doe today a huge one about 100yards away she and seven othiers ran down a bottom so she stopped dead in her tracks and looked around so i raised my barrel and shoot her in the heart and it came in like the .280 diameter and blowend up and came the othier side of the size of a baseball, im hooked own winchester ammo for life im very pleased with the ammos performance she dropped like a rock, so i was wondering if yall thing the .280rem is close to the 7mm mag or what do yall think its simillar too

The 7mm Rem Mag will out-shine the 280 Rem, but it is not very far ahead of it! The 280 is close!

I use 154 grain Hornady Spire Point reloads in my 7 Mag!
The buck I got this year had an exit hole on the other side of his rib cage, about the size of a golf ball!

I really like 7mm-anything, from the 7mm TCU up through the 7mm Mag!

I'm still trying to figure out why you want to blow such a big hole and lose that much quaity meat, I shoot an 06 at 125 gr. and a 270 at 90 gr. and drop them with no problem and I do not lose over a pound of meat!!!!!!! If I went for ELK, I would prob do the same except jump to 180 and 150 gr. respectfully!!!!!!!!!!

with 140-150gr bullets the 280 will do anything that the 7mag will do with a little less noise and recoil. :wink:

I wont take the time to give the same 'ol "diminishing returns" speech about the 7Mag...

Unless you're going to be shooting 300+ yds(and how many people HONESTLY have a NEED, let alone the ability to shoot whitetail at that range), the 7 mag doesnt do anything better than a .280 other than kick harder and boom louder... unless you're the "my gun has more KE at 100 yds than your gun" type...

Caliber suitability is all circumstance.... it depends on your choice of game and shooting situations... Sounds like you've gotta deer dropper right there so why bother with a magnum... :wink:
