Many PD shooters here?

I may not get the award for longest shots, but I just love to shoot them with my 22 pistol. Some times it is best to start out kind of light and less noisy, then work up to the boomers.

I've tried it and enjoyed it, but it's not something I want to do a lot of. It's a great way to develop long-range shooting skills.

PD shooting 20+ years ago is what helped me to develop LR skills and also helped me develop good communication skills with my hunting buddy which enhanced our abilities when big game hunting. There will be a LR PD shoot sometime in October of 2007 in colorado that will be specifically for SP's.  No shots under 400 yards allowed
Now that sounds like a lot of fun :-D

I'd have to get a new scope for that!  My 2-7x scope becomes pretty ineffective on PD's after about 200 yards. 10-12x would be really nice for longer shots. But then I'd want a cartridge with more velocity than 221 fire ball too.

One time I found a copy of Varmint Hunter (?) magazine-- a big glossy magazine dedicated only to varmint shooting and hunting. They've got reader pictures in the back and a 500 yard and 1000 yard club for prairie dog kills. A fair number of them are taken with specialty pistols.

Took my son out to shoot PD's a couple of years ago and he had a great time. He still talks about some of the shots he made.  It really gave him a boost in his shooting confidence. (His favorite shot was when he shot one that was in his hole with only his head sticking up. He hit the head right on the nose and it vaporized the head, leaving the body in the hole. I used a .270 Winchester rifle on that trip with V-Max bullets and whoooo-eee was that ever effective!!!. The gun would come to a rest after recoiling and the remains of the PD were still falling down.)  Now I'm itching to go back and do it again!

You can do quite a bit with a 7x if you sight it to where your impact point is where the top of the horizontal crosshair is at teh feet ground of the PD (but the bullet will hit dead cenyter on the dog) and the vert crosshair is lined up on hte left edge of the dog.
This way you can see te whole dog and it will extend your distance given the cartridge you are suing and the conditions.
A Burris 3-12 LER w/BP would be beneficial or a higher powered rifle scope if you are comfortable using a rifle scope on a SP.
There will be a number of VHM subscribers there, so hopefully we can add  a # of SP shooters to the 500, 1000 and even 1500 yard clubs!
