spawn times...

when do the crappies spawn in your area?   and while im asking,  when do the blue gills start?   i am trying to plan my vacation around the spawn,  and i think the bluegill spawn will be a bit more predictable.   if i remember correctly, the gills start about a week after memorial weekend here.  someday i will start keeping a calender with these kind of dates recorded for future reference.  live and learn.

Southern Pa., the crappies have been staging in the treetops around 10-15 feet for about 2 weeks now. Tommorrow, Good Friday, I can always find them on the shoreline at the steep breaks. I'll be fishing fatheads under slip bobbers, somewhere set at 3- 4.5 feet. The larger black crappie will usually set up under the "little ones". Bluegills are probably getting real close now too. I can usually find the slabsides around bridge pilings on the local lakes. Sometimes it gets that thick with them and yellow perch the Garmin screen will go completely black. That usually when I drop a 1/80 ounce leadhead tipped w/ garden worm and wait for the yank!! Nothing better than two(2) ultralight outfits both hooked up to a 1lb. 'gill.
