I just got my 500S&W barrel back from the gunsmith today.

I had him cut it to 16.25" and cut an 11 degree crown. I also got him to fit the thickest decelerator pad we could find. I'll be taking it to the range this weekend. I'll let you guys know how much fun it is.

I think it'll be great for hunting in thick brush. Even with the short barrel the velocity shoulc still be well above what a pistol produces.

Have you shot ie yet?  Is that a fore arm from a Buffalo Classic?  Looks longer than normal but cool like a semi Mannlicher. I'm curious about the felt recoil on a light weight shorty like this.  Are you planning to add any lead in the butt stock to help reduce recoil?  This looks like a great boar gun in thick stuff.

It's a buffalo classic forend. I haven't shot it yet but will be this weekend. In fact i just got back from buying a red dot for it. I don't plan on adding any weight to the gun. I think the new recoil pad should take care of that issue.

:D , Great looking close range/thick stuff heavy hitter, conratulations. If you get a chance to pick up a TDC checkered American Black Walnut buttstock it would really complement the nice checkered American Black Walnut  BC forearm you have on it. It looks pretty nice now but perhaps the pallet wood buttstock could be replaced someday. I don't mean to be critical, I really think it looks great, I have always liked short bareled "handy" and quick handling rifles and yours surely fits the bill. Or you could just put as pallet wood forearm on it to make the wood match, it would still be an awesome rifle for the intended purpose. Good work!!!....<><....

For another $75 you could get one of Gunstockinc's walnut stocks with the same pad fitted...

http://www.gunstocksinc.com/web%20pages/Plate%20Pic's/NEF%20stocks/nef%20straight%20comb%20factory%20buttstock%20descrip.htm

Or even a straight-wristed model for the same price if you like...

Either would make for a really handy handi with class...

THAT is a cool rifle! I would put a straight grip stock on it, you can cut down the factory stock if you are "handi". :-D  I cut down the one on my pardner 12 gauge, once its done Ill post some pics. Seeing that short barrel makes me want to get a 357 and cut it down.

Sorry for the delay. The other night i took it out and destroyed an old VCR. I like the gun a LOT better now. It balances so much better. The recoil pad works wonders too. As for the buttstock i may stain it to match later. I highly recomend the BC forend.

I love the way the barrel and forarm flow together , now if we could just get H&R to do something about the big ugly scope rail that they have .
