Speer Shotshell Capsules.... in a rifle barrel?

I would post such a topic only in the Handgun forum if where not for 4  happenings as of late....

1-I will be receiving my 44Mag barrel back, thanks to a deal made with a friend.  

2-It's getting very warm, and that means the little creepy crawlers are slithering around as of late...AKA-yes, snakes :twisted:

3-I love of versitility. And what a HUGE draw our little Handis can produce because of this very reason...Ok well I have always loved this aspect :agree:

4-I'm reloading :grin:  :toast:  :music: ...if your still throwing up the idea to start, just do it! It's as complicated as you make it, and needless to say I am a simple man.

So just wondering what kind of "performance"-if I can really say that- is to be had with reloading Shot Shell loads for such calibers as a 357 or 44Mag Handi barrel?

With the added length of barrel over a revolver, and considering the continous twist from such, what kind of spread are we looking at here?

And last but not least what size of shot would be best if it where favorable?

I have never loaded a shot capsul for a rifle..but I have shot them on a couple occassions from a pistol and wasn't the least impressed with them.My best guesstiment would be they not give any decent patterns at all..perhaps to a couple feet from the muzzle..As to shot size..I would hazzard a guess that the smallest size would give the best patterns..

I have never load for long barrel had best  with short barel, I tried
 7 1/2 down to 9 n9t to good results, Try them you might like them!

My experience is that they work relatively well in a 4" revolver with at least #10 shot or even better #12. The reason they don't work in longer barrels is the rifling. It turns the patterns into a circle with no shot in the center so what you are aiming at never gets touched and everything around it gets nailed. I would think a rifle barrel would throw a pattern with a huge hole in the middle and the shot would all be in about a 5" or less pattern outside of the hole. The other thing that makes a huge difference is the shot size. The smaller the better. Mike Venturing had an article on shot loads in either Rifle or Handloader magazine. You might go to their website www.riflemagazine.com and see if you can find that article in their archives.

Thats what I thought. The same reason shooting shot shells through a rifled slug barrel is a bad idea. Twisting the wad and making all the shot come apart, slinging it everywhere.
I suppose they are just Handi for revolvers and short stuff :? .
