Pet Loads for the .270 Ultra-Comp????
« on: May 29, 2006, 03:55:55 PM »
Was wondering what if any pet loads anyone here may have developed for the .270 Ultra comp....am nearing the 200 round break in with factory ammo and it is shooting well, elcheapo remington grreenbox 130 grain core lokt stuff, but have dies etc and love the economy of handloading....any pet loads with H380, reloader 22 or imr 4198 or 4195 or whatever you might load????.....any help would be apprcieated.....

Sure..

My favorite powder for any 270 rifle I've ever owned is IMR 4350 ...All my rifles have varied between 54 or 55 grains of IMR4350..Winchester cases, and Winchester Lg Rifle primers..and a 130 grain Nosler BT...It has given me the best over all accuracy and consistant velocity...As always..start at the recommended loading from the manuals and work up in small incriments checking for pressure signs..Some folks rifles do good with R22 and H4831SC too..but I have never achieved the consistancy with those powders as I have with IMR4350...I would rather sacrifice 100fps but have a 1/2" shooter..Also...I have good luck using IMR4350 with all bullet weights from 90 grains to 160 grains....This is another reason I like it so well...

Another factory load for you to try is the Federal Fusion 130 grain load...It has done exceeedingly well from my Ultra Comps..

Good Luck :D

hey mac, thanks for the info....I will have to get some of that powder, it is not one I have in stock....also plan to get an electronic scale....loading too many calibers now to keep resetting the manual powder measure al the time......and thanks for the heads up on the fusion ammo...have seen that it is shooting well in the handi rifles from other posts in/and on the forum(s) but had not heard anything ultra-comp specific.....I love the gun and it is beautiful but i have to admit the exceptional muzzle blast wasback take some getting used to!....still even though i am a lefty shooter, i can't resist the nef rifles.....had a 22-250 years ago and a .243 and now have a .280, .270, 30-30, and a 45-70.....will probably add a few spare barrels down the road and am tickled by the survivor rifles and the shakiris....I may have to get a part time job again, may have to moonlight to support the monkey on my back.....oh well.
