Are the Weatherby threads on the Mark V and the Vanguard the same? Does anyone know what the thread size is?
Thanks
Mark

The Vanguard's are said to be actually Howa 1500's (Japanese).  I own a Howa and have noticed on some of the gunsmithing threads that guys have stated the barrel threads are metric pitch and size as opposed to most American made barreled actions.  Hopefully someone that's been into one can post with better information.

I've a book around somewhere that has thread diameters for various barrel shanks but it's too late just now. I'll look for it tomorrow if no one else finds their info first..

I email a gunsmith I know and this is what he said
Quote
The Weatherby vanguard action is made by Howa in Japan and has a
Metric thread. The Mark V has an english thread and the barrels will
not
interchange. The english thread is 16tpi and the metric is 1.5mm which
is close to that and they may even thread together for a couple of
turns. A manure spreader mechanic may even force them together with a
pipe wrench. This is not proper and really not safe. Don't do it.
So that took care of that idea I had.
