Looking for a New Tactical-Oriented Shotgun...
« on: May 30, 2006, 02:14:20 PM »
...and I have been really considering the Benelli M3 Convertible.

Here's a picture of the Benelli M3 Convertible:

I'm really interested in this gun, as its features seem quite remarkable.

I'm aware it is a higher-end gun; but I'm looking for a gun with excellent quality and reliability.  It is a semi-auto/pump to, in a way, go with my pump-only Moss. 590.  I figured the convertible is  a good choice because it has the added benefit of not only semi-automatic operation, but also pump operation if the need arises.  Are there any compatible accessories I can install on it?  What are your opinions regarding this shotgun?  The "Inertia Driven" cycle system also sounds pretty decent to me.  Any opinions regarding that?  Info about this system is described in detail here: http://www.benelliusa.com/firearms/inertia.tpl

There is sound in that link, so listen if you want to.  Overall, does this shotgun seem to be worth its price?  Yes, my questions are many, as I don't want to leave any stones unturned.  :P

Please, feel free to let loose with any commments, opinions, suggestions, etc., as they are appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

WOW! I'm amazed at the shotguns that are being sold. Home defense I'm guessing. I've used a lot of shotguns over the years, SXS's, O/U's, single shots, bolt's, pumps and autos. I view a shotgun like a painters paint brush as I concider shotgunning an art.

My idea af a good shotgun is a 16ga SXS with 28" barrels. Straight english grip and double triggers. It should weigh min. 7lbs. To light and to short a gun does not swing well.

i have and SBE and an SBEII and like them both.  Benelli makes a very high quality product.  That being said, anyone who tells you they shoot an auto that has never hung up is either a) inexperienced b) lying or c) only does nice clean hunts on nice clean days.  I would never trust my life to an auto, period.  BUT, this seems like a great option.  I'd be interested to see how it works.  There is no question that I can shoot a benelli auto faster than I can shoot my Model 12, so if you could have the speed and recoil reduction of an auto combined with the reliability of a pump it would seem to be the ultimate defense shotgun.

Thanks for your input guys.  I have put this on my "save'n up for" list, and I think it will be an awesome addition to the safe.
