Help! "Gun ID"
« on: June 06, 2006, 04:37:42 PM »
My mother-in -law has asked me to sell a gun that she has for her but I can't find a name on it. It is a single action 22lr 22mag combo. It was bought by her brother in the 60's in Germany It is all black finish except for the hammer, it's silver in color. It has a frame mounted fireing pin but does not appear to have any sort of transfer bar or similar system. On the left side of the barrel it's stamped cal. 22 L.R. On the bottom of the barrel is stamped GERMANY and the ser#. The ser# is also stamped on the bottom front of the frame. It has plastic grips with a buffalo on each grip and on the bottom of the right grop it says made on Germany. On the bottom of the grip frame it is stamped LA's DEPUTY. The extra cylinder is stamped 22MAGN. with GERMANY under that. The box is green but has nothing written on it at least that still shows. There is a sticker on the box with the ser# on it but thats it.

Anyone know what it is and an aprox. value range.
I really don't expect it to be worth a lot but I would like to know what it is before I try to sell it. I may even buy it myself just because it belonged first to my wifes uncle and then to her mother.

Help! "Gun ID"

Well, I thought I answered this once.  Must have had to get off before posting my reply.  That sounds like the old 'Buffalo Scout' imported by Hawes in the 60's and 70's.  They were patterened after the Colt Scout and were a well made gun.  I worked at a sporting goods store in Flint in the late 60's and tried one of these out.  I shot a dime sized group with it at about 15'.  I was very excited and put the gun away to buy the next week.  Well, when I came back in the next week, someone had sold that gun and I always regretted missing out on it.  They seem be sell for about $100 now (the one I shot in the '60s was $29.95!)  I would possibly be interested.  44 Man

Thanks 44 Man,

I have heard of the Hawes imports but I can't remember if I have ever seen one or not. I Haven't  find anything on an "LAs' DEPUTY" revolver.
The price you give is about what I would have expected just from looking at the gun. It has a pretty good feel to it. I'll have to clean it up and shoot it then decide what I will do with it.

If anyone else has more info please jump in.
