Medium or high will be required to clear the hammer unless you make hammer modifications as detailed in the FAQ, I use medium Burris Signature Zees almost exclusively, but sometime highs are needed, just depends on the scope and mounting position.

I have a soft spot for my Leupold QRW rings..these are the high ones..but like Quick already said..most medium ones will work too depending on scope placement..

Those are my favorites as well!! Leupold also makes a set with out the quick release feature, for a bit less cash.
But these are by far my favorite for the handi's!! they are perfect height and very strong.

Hi guys...been away for a while, hows everyone been?

I use High Loupold rifleman rings from Wally World.
They are about $16 + Some times Med will work.

If you make a slight modification to the hammer, you can use the low Leupold QRWs.

You need to make up some of them and sell them to guys like me that have too many thumbs to do it ourselves .

Honestly i like the looks of the lower scope on the handi's now if we can just come up with a diffrent type of mount , say a 2 peice and loose the ugly rail .

Just send me your hammer and I'll grind it down for ya!! The harder part is the R&R, although after doing so many, it's really quite easy, it's the first one that's toughest!! :-D

Fred's 2 piece mount is great, but that's beyond the scope of the home gunsmith's capabilities. :?

I have the bushnell banner 3x9x40 on my 30-30 NEF and use the extra high weaver rings. For a 3x9 that's a fairly short scope.

YES, Extra high in about any manufacturer will work....but many guys want the scope as low as possible with out interfeering with any funtionality. There are many combos that guys like.

As I said before, I prefer the Leupold ring, I am diffferent, I use Leupold scopes just about exclusively. Even then 90% of those are the 2X7X33 VXII variety. This scope fits about perfect with MED rings on my handi's.

Here is a pic of my 500 with this setup:
