Rem. Managed Recoil ammo in 7400 @ the Range
« on: August 02, 2006, 09:11:40 AM »
Yesterday I shot a box of Remington's Managed Recoil load in .30-06 (125 gr. @ 2,660) and compared it to a box of Federal's standard 150 gr. @ 2,9_ _. I was amazed at how little the recoil was. I actually saw the bullet impact through the scope. Now, that light load didn't cycle the action. I had to manually do it after each shot, which really isn't a big deal to me. I also had my .243 NEF single shot. I swear that the Managed Recoil load had less recoil than the .243. Now, remember this is in a 7400 autoloader, which softens recoil already. I do not know how much less recoil there is from a 7400 auto to a (same caliber) bolt gun as I have never shot a .30-06 in anything but my 7400.

Accuracy? When I am at the range I shoot/practice all my shots off hand once I know the rifle is sighted in. The rifle was sighted in using the standard 150 gr ammo. All Managed Recoil loads were shot off hand, which is my most difficult position. I feel that if I practice in this position, I should be ready for that position should I need to use it in the field. The groups were all 4 - 5 inches @ 100 yards. Point of impact was dead center and 1 inch lower than the standard load. I thought that was pretty respectable and would consider hunting deer with this load.

Just FYI for everyone.
