I've had the 4X12X40 AO scope sold at Wal Mart for 2-3 yrs now.  Its mounted on a NEF .280.  The rifle is zeroed for 200yds.  I've never had a problem with the scope and would buy another.

I have a three Bushnell Sportsman models.  A 4x32 on a Marlin Mod 60; and two 3X9X40's, one each mounted on a NEF .223 and a NEF Sportster .22 mag.  I've never had a problem with either scope.

The Sportsman line is considered below the accepted norm for a reliable rifle scope. I can't say anything bad about them so far and believe the lenses are clearer than any of my Banner's.

Yeah i bought one from a friend should have it next week.Im planning on putting it on a 45/70 Gov't barrel as soon as i get it back from the H&R factory i don't know how bad the recoil will be i have never shot this caliber before but what i have read it can be pretty stiff.hope the scope can hold up under it.

The recoil wouldn't be my only concern with putting that scope on the Ol' Gov. Whats the eye relief on that model?
I would be concerned about it once you get to cranking the power up. On 4x it might be ok...maybe.

I have two of these, but both on H&R rimfires. Have had them both for awhile and have had no problems with either. The AO is accurate. Can't speak to it on a heavy recoiling gun though.
