want a newer truck
« on: November 07, 2004, 04:08:58 PM »
hope you all can help me on advice on getting a newer truck.leasing,or financing thru a bank or,gmac or other finance options.im 29 yrs old plan on gettin one this summmer when im 30.have financed a 99 dodge neon car with the help of my parents in 1999.i do have good credit?the biggest shocker of the new car was the requirement of having full coverage.expensive!i pay 389 for 6months of coverage on the car and have been told that a 4x4 vehicle is more on insurance compared to a car.also have been told to get a 4x4 in the summer,as its cheaper compared to winter when 4x4s are in demand, spring when graduates are in need of vehicles. what would be reasonable for a finance % charge, monthly payments?did finance a atv also thru a bank at 8%,which i thought was good.i woldnt be putttin to many miles on the truck, just during the hunting season.or if you can post a link to other boards where ican learn more?thanks a bunch.

If you buy used the advice on when to buy might hold water, at least in some places. I've not noticed any difference by season around here tho.

No one can really predict the interest rate for you. Used you can expect to pay from 2% to 6% more than on a new one generally. Only the finance folks can tell you after they look over your credit file.

Now many perhaps most of the manufacturers are offering special finance rates as incentives to buy but we're talking only new here. Doubt you'll find a lease on a used vehicle, only new ones. Pretty much everyone offers leases these days and generally payments will be lower. BUT remember on a lease you are not buying it and if you damage it you will or might end up paying a ton extra at the end of lease for having done so unless you then buy it at lease end.

I just picked up a new Toyota Tundra Access Cab 4x4 truck last month and yup the insurance is much higher than I expected but the tag was a far bigger shocker still. New trucks sure ain't cheap these days. But can be a really good buy if you take care of it and keep it 10 or more years.

What ever you do, DO NOT LEASE!!! A co-worker leased a 99 Dodge and now has made the last payment of lease. All well and good if you can deduct the lease for buisness but he can't. The truck only has 25,000 mi on it and too buy it back they want $15,000.00(they told him bottom line is $14,000.00) for it since it's like new. Now he can't afford to buy a new and wants to keep this one. They are even charging him for wear on the tires and for a hole in toneau cover that he put on! For only $55.00 more a month it would his out-right now if he had bought it. Insurance is also higher because of Gap-insurance when it was newer.  It would've been $3300 more to buy over 5yr, now it'll cost him $15,000.00 to keep!!

A lease is a sucker's bet....BUY...even if you have to get a somewhat less expensive rig...You want dependibility, get a nice older 12valve, ( pre 99) dodge cummins diesel...They're just getting broken in at 100,00K...Find one for sale by the original owner and well taken care of....
