« on: June 11, 2006, 05:54:42 AM »
I traded off a marlin 22mag i wasn't using for this rifle it shoots great and should be a fun woods rifle. It doesn't have a model # on it .I think its a replica of a winchester model 92. its a leveraction 44mag. with a 20"barrel On the right side its marked 44 magnum  made in brazil on the left side by the rear sight its marked amadeo rossi sa half way to the muzzle on the left side its marked Interarms Alexandria Virgina it has two barrel bands one at the front of the forend and one by the muzzle the front sight is part of the  band. on the receiver left side it has a saddle ring it has half cock safety only and a curved butt plate which is metal stamped underneith # 1691 the barrel is round and the serial # is on the bottom of the receiver in front of the lever which is M0016XX. Can anyone give me any info on this rifle. Thanks Tanoose

I bought one in .44-40 at a gun show in Roanoke, Va some years ago.  As I recall, mine was $239 and the .45 Colts were about $20 higher.  Mine has been a fine shooter, except it likes to chew on the cartridge mouths, the result of an overly strong ejector spring.  The finish on the wood was strange, kind of sticky. I stripped it and put on a walnut stain and then used tung oil to refinish the stock.  It looks really nice.  I don't know what the wood was, except it was soft and had a strange musky-minty smell.  I had to cut down the buttplate to match the stock profile, but it was a great buy for the price.  I  like the way it carries better than a Model 94, not that a 94 doesn't feel good in the hand. I would get another Rossi 92 in a heartbeat.
