Reynolds Parchment "Baking" paper...
« on: March 22, 2003, 04:20:15 AM »
My wife just brought something to my attention that may really be of interest here. She came in with a box of Reynolds Parchment Paper used to line cookie sheets and pans, cake pans etc. for keeping cookies etc. from sticking to the pan. They call it Parchment Paper, The Simple Secret to better Baking... Now, I have not measured the thickness yet, (probably should have before writing this) but it is very thin. Also, they don't tell it's composition on the box, and I have not tried yet to see how well it "wets" and sticks to the bullet, but as soon as I get off work tonight, I am going to start working with it. My suspicion is that it will be difficult to "wet", but since I use Lee Alox lube, I expect this may very well be an inexpensive solution to the paper patch (parchment paper) problem... and I would think that being "baking" paper, it's just about got to be tough... Anyone tried this stuff...???

What bullets are you paper patching and using alox with?  I  sure hope you aren't using alox with BP or Pyrodex.

I found a good sourse of paper right in the art section of Wal-Mart.  It is thin yet durable for patching and rolls a good patch and when dried I lube with beeswax/neetsfoot oil mixed 50/50.

I'm waiting on my order from Liberty Shooting Supplies for my .451" CBPP 530-gr bullets to shoot in my 45-2.4"

I have'nt gotten around to wrapping any bullets with it yet.

You don't want to use any petroleum oil or other petroleum products with BP... they turn to tar during the combustion process of BP or Pyrodex and are not easily removed... BP lubes produce residue that is water soluable...

Have you ever checked the thickness of that paper?and is it coated with something?
With the bullet I use my paper has to 1.5/1000.
You know I found some 9lb rag paper a long time ago,I use a lot ,and that box still looks like it's full. There is a price on the box6.95.You know Even if it costs $20.a box it still is a good buy.It seams to last for ever.

Lee Alox and black powder

Iron Knees,
I personally know very little about the subject, but I just recently received Wolf's book about shooting black powder in the Trapdoor Springfield.
In it,he recommends using Lee Alox with round ball loadsand black powder.
I have only read a small ppart of the book,so I don't know if he suggests any other use for Lee Alox.
