E.A. Brown 97D rifles
« on: June 02, 2006, 09:51:37 PM »
Hey guys I’m looking for feedback regarding the accuracy (what kind of groups) and quality of the E.A. Brown 97D rifles.  Seriously considering ordering one in either 17 HeeBee or 219 Donaldson Wasp.  If you have any experiences with one of these 97D rifles I would like to hear from you.  Thanks.

Alan

I haven't messed with their rifles, but their pistols are exceptionally accurate. Maybe not the best looking guns made, but they do shoot quite well. My only complaint is the extraction is a bit weak, you don't want to go pushing pressures too far.

I have one in 25-35 improved and my best load so far averages .9" for 5 shots at 100 yds. It's not as accurate as my best bolt guns, but I am happy with just under an inch. The quality of the gun is very good. It has a very nice trigger also. The M97 is a really small action, so even with the fairly heavy barrel they come with the gun is still light and thin - nice to carry. As Nobade says they do have weak spring driven extraction and the gun will let you know when you are starting to push things too much. With normal pressure loads I don't have any extraction issues.

I have one in 6PPC and it is VERY accurate, and a joy to carry. My trigger breaks at 22oz.,it wears a 26"Bbl,and has a Very tight chamber cut especially for Lapua brass and I found that I had to order the dies they sell as the dies I use for my Sako would not reduce case dimentions enough to chamber. This is on par with my L.V.Bench gun.Groups avg..750
.5ish being my best.It also does not like to extract when pressures get high and I found that some starting loads were best all round.Still playing around with it though.
Also the people at Browns were great to deal with and even got to talk to the man himself when I had questions.I am quite satisfied.......
