454 Casull cases no longer made
« on: June 24, 2006, 11:34:45 AM »
I thought about the North American Arms and Freedom Arms, since
these are no longer made. I have around 100/150 of both headstamps.
All were bought as fired. No original loads.
Some,I've loaded, and fired.A few will not chamber, due to the excessive
web stretch. My carbide dies will not re-size these correctly.
Been thinking about retiring these.
My question is, are these in the collectable status ? Or are they in such proliferation, that it would take a few years,to be collectors' items ?
Thanks.

It will take decades for loaded cartridges to become collectable, and fired cases even longer! I'd use them if they work for your gun.

Hiya !, :D
Thought I'd find out.
I was thinking about using some cases, turning them into 45 Colt cases.
And removing the headstamp. Then I'd know these are for my Uberti 45 Colt. Wouldn't be too much of a job.Just the time to do it.
Would make for some unsual ammo. Some, can't chamber them in the F.A. And a few, the rim thickness,is too thick.
Need to buy more small pistol primers.
Got laid-off last Friday, while on a 3 day vacation. Was at the range when I got the call.
Now, got the time for reloading a lot of cases:45-70,45 Colt,44 mag,454 Casull. And, experiment with pointed bullets. Will have to use my 7X10 lathe. More fun.
Anyway, thanks for your reply.

Can't take too much off the rim thickness, while removing the headstamp, or the primers will sit high, which is dangerous! You may want to mark them with a small file notch on the edge, or paint.

These cases won't be for the 454 Casull.
