shotgun facelift

This is my h&r 12 gauge that I bought about 13 or so years ago. It was the first shot gun that I bought. My dad did a camo job on it several years ago, and while he did good job, but I thought that it needed a makeover. I like the looks of a straight grip stock, so I fired up the band saw and started cutting. I also cut the barrel down to 18.5 inches. I had tried to pattern it one day a a awhile back and noticed that it shot about a foot low and right at 25 yards. So i knew that I had nothing to lose by cutting it down. The only thing that I worried about is that it wouldnt hold a tight pattern. I was wrong. While it isnt super tight, its more than good enough for what Im gonna use it for. And as a bonus, it now shoots where you aim it.
I didnt spend enough time on the prep work for the blueing job that I did, as I didnt think that the 3 dollar walmart blueing would be worth a crap. Wrong. It turned out very good, much better that the factory finnish ever thought about being. I got most of the lathe marks out of the barrel, and it is fairly shiny as well. I just have to figure out what to do about the butt plate. I like the crescent shape butts, it just make it a little harder to find a decent plate. If I can find some brass, I will more than likey make it out of that. Oh, I also cut down the forend as well.

Good job :agree: looks like a nice little package. I don't like a straight grip on many applications, but for a shotgun and a carbine it looks classic.
Thanks for the pics.

Looks great.  I, too, like the straight grip and shortening the forend was a nice touch.  Great job.
